Being a French film, with that title, it could only be Isabelle Huppert…what a woman! (Forgive me but I can’t help it – Quelle femme!)

As predicted by my friend Dani (it’s great to have a friend who knows you that well when it comes to films), he knew that I would love this film and he was completely right!!! It’s one of the few films that has put me in a very difficult and uncomfortable position from the beginning. I literally watched it in a complete twist, half facing the screen and my body looking in the opposite direction with my legs crossed. It’s a very unpredictable film, you cannot see it coming at all. Cause she – “Elle” is not normal (I”m still not sure this means in the good or bad way). What a performance ladies and gentlemen…like having a goddess among mortals.

Both the director, Paul Verhoeven (78 years old, wow! – what a creative career), and the main actrees – Isabelle Huppert (the goddess on earth I was talking about) introduced the film and both came back at the end for a Q&A – priceless! In her introductory speech, she encouraged us to be brave and not suffer too much. She said: “It’s not too dangerous”(as if playing with fire…).

“Elle” is the journey of this given woman and what she goes through at the particular time of the film. It has a similar touch (just the way she’s pictured as the protagonist) with “Things to come”, in the way that they both depict the journey of two very particular women. That is the only similarity, then, they diverse. “Elle” is noir, suspense, drama, comedy and all of it accounted by a very crafted man with a very defined style like Verhoeven posseses. He said that they practically didn’t speak during the film cause they both understood the character. Other than blocking the scene, that was it! He said that she was all that he wanted to see every time he said action.

As per her, she’s a surgeon of the performance. She was asked how did she prepared for the role (really?-no comments) and she said that although it looks like she is suffering…she doesn’t. It’s a mousetrap for the audience. You are completely lost, you don’t know what to feel for her, almost a catch me if you can.

I went to check on IMDB to see how old is she…and I almost fainted when I saw the number 63??? OMG, she’s sexy as hell, misterious, correct, precise…she has everythingto be a “femme fatale” and still she’s as fascinating as fire…you want to touch it…even know you’ll get burned and it will hurt. Hell doors have wide opened. I’m lost in her.

Her English is more than correct…she was explaining the rollercoaster of emotions with precision, the when, the how and the why. Simply amazing. I just regret to have missed her performance in “The Maids” along with my other particular goddess,  Cate Blanchett. Can you imagine? What a feast for the eyes!!!

A final advice, don’t go and watch it if you’re not good friends with strong emotions and shock…you might have a heart attack. Reality can be ugly, but with Miss Huppert, at least is pretty ugly 🙂

Siendo una película francesa y con ese título, sólo podría ser Isabelle Huppert … ¡qué mujer! (No he podido evitarlo – Quelle femme!)

Como predijo mi amigo Dani, (es genial tener un amigo que te conoce bien cuando se trata de películas), él sabía que me encantaría esta película y tenía toda la razón! Es una de las pocas películas que me ha colocado en una posición muy difícil e incómoda desde el principio. La vi, literalmente en escorzo, mirando la pantalla y el resto del cuerpo hacia el otro lado con las piernas cruzadas. Es una película muy impredecible, no la ves venir. Porque ella – “Elle” no es normal (todavía no sé si es bueno o malo.) Qué actuación damas y caballeros… como tener a una diosa entre meros mortales.

Tanto el director, Paul Verhoeven (78 años, ¡menuda carrera cinematográfica!), como la actriz principal – Isabelle Huppert (la diosa de la que estaba hablando) presentaron la película y ambos regresaron al final para ruegos y preguntas – ¡no hay dinero que pueda pagarlo! En su presentación, nos animó a ser valientes y no sufrir demasiado. Dijo: “No es demasiado peligroso” (como si jugáramos con fuego …).

“Elle” es el viaje de esta mujer, con sus (muy) particulares circunstancias y lo que acontece en la película y de qué manera! Tiene un cierto parecido con”El porvenir”, las dos películas retratan el fascinante viaje de dos mujeres extraordinarias. Y ahí se acaban las similitues, a partir de ahí, son totalmente diferentes. “Elle” es noir, tiene suspense, drama, comedia y todo ello escenificado y articulado por un hombre con un elaborado estilo y tan definido como Verhoeven posee. En la charla posterior, dijo que prácticamente no hablaron del personaje durante la película porque ambos la entendieron y vieron desde la misma perspectiva. Dijo que ella era todo lo que quería ver en la pantalla cada vez que decía acción.

Pasemos a ella, ese animal de la interpretación… Huppert es sencillamente una cirujana de la interpretación. Cómo no, alguien en el público tuvo la ocurrencia de preguntarle que cómo había preparado para el papel (¿en serio?- sin comentarios) y dijo que, aunque parece que está sufriendo, en realidad es todo mentira, jejeje. Es una continua trampa para la audiencia. Estás completamente perdido, no sabes qué sentir por ella, juega contigo al tú la llevas (o como decimos en Galicia, a la pita).

Nada más volver a casa, me metí en IMDB para ver cuántos años tenía… y casi me da algo cuando vi 63 ??? Guau, la encuentro una mujer tremendamente sexy a la vez que misteriosa, correcta, precisa… lo tiene todo para ser una “femme fatale” y sigue siendo tan fascinante como el fuego… quieres tocarlo… incluso sabes que te quemará y que dolerá. Pero…las puertas del infierno se han abierto y yo estoy perdida.

Su inglés es más que correcto porque nos estuvo explicando la montaña rusa de emociones por la que pasó con tal precisión, que parecía que estuviera diseccionando al personaje en la mesa de operaciones delante de nosotros; el cuándo, el cómo y el por qué. Simplemente asombroso. Sólo lamento haberme perdido su actuación en “Las criadas” junto a mi otra diosa, Cate Blanchett. ¡¡¡Menudo festival para la vista!!!

Un consejo final, no vayáis a verla si no os van las emociones fuertes y quizás llevaros un par de buen sustos.  La realidad puede ser fea, pero con la señora Huppert, al menos es mejor que fea 🙂
