Festival de Cannes

Today is the kick off of the most glamorous festival in the world,  with a great edition 🙂 (69th). In Cannes, everything is possible: from catching a thief to a mere actress becoming a princess. Obviously, I meant Grace Kelly… my ever first platonic love (at a cinematic level, of course).

Cannes has been on my wish list since 1995, when I saw “To Catch a Thief”. I had seen Grace in “Mogambo”, but the spell was cast in Hitchcock’s movie. Then, when I was almost 16 years old, the possibility of visiting Cannes was impossible and very remote to me. Who would tell me that, just 11 years later, I would visit the city and even attend the most spectacular film festival on the face of the earth. Dreams are meant to come true! Being kids again – Ser niños otra vez

The first VHS tape I ever watched was “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial”. It was 1990 (everything arrived pretty late back then in Spain) and our neighbour already had a BETA video for so many years. After all those years waiting for technology to arrive, I understood why my dad waiting for so long to get it. Nevertheless, I have to say that probably it was the only one time that I didn’t cry watching this particular film. Whatever, no comments!

Last Friday, I had the pleasure of witnessing two children watching “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial”for their first time and it was like going back to 1990. The 5 years old girl was quite frightened because the music was telling her that something scary was about to happen when Elliot and E.T. meet for the first time. The 3 years old boy was very relaxed and not scared at all. He had a big smile in his face. And I cannot tell you how big my smile was. I pretty much had goose bumps all the time but especially when Elliot stops right before the clift with his bycicle and then E.T. makes then fly over the trees to land in the middle of the forest while John Willliam’s famous soundtrack  plays in the background (and that originated in the logo of Spielberg´s Production company – Amblin). I was shifting between the TV screen and the children’s face to see their reaction. Honestly,  eyes were quite watery. Of course, the end arrived and I couldn’t help to use a tissue to hide several tears running down my face 😦  Continue reading “Being kids again – Ser niños otra vez”

“Now what? – ¿Y ahora qué?”

Otra serie que se acaba…y la culpa esta vez es de Netflix. A quién se le ocurriría suscribirse. No tenía suficiente con seguir mi regla de oro, que nunca falla, y por algo la tengo: nunca ver series que sigan en activo. Así me va…el primer día que me meto en Netflix UK, me piden que elija unas cuántas opciones. Lo hago y ZAS, en toda la cara…como por arte de magia, aparece “Galerías Velvet”. “Dial M for Murder – Crimen Perfecto”

It’s Friday night and you’re with a friend. What a better idea than to watch a film. And, without realizing, you choose one of the movies that you were so obsessed about when you were 15 and you began to discover exciting stories. It was when I bumped into Grace Kelly, just over 20 years ago. When you have your first “crush” with an actor / actress, you can get to eat up movies without tasting them. And that’s what happened to me in a way … although I must admit that Hitchcock has always fascinated me. Ironically, my love affair with cinema began watching classic movies, those type of movies that my cousin Fran defines like “that film sounds like good cinema”. “My Passion & Love”

Dear ones,

Here I am, in front of a blank page. I’ve been wanting to do this for so long, that right now I’m really scared. But, wait a minute, like Liz Gilbert said once, if you want to be creative and express what’s in your guts, you need to be fearless and not get obsessed with the result. And, besides, I can talk or write about movies endlessly. Continue reading ““My Passion & Love””
